Executive Summary

This report presents the evidence of Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) on Sustainable Development Goal 16, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, for the reporting year 2025 (January to December). UIII was founded to bring Indonesian perspectives on moderate, plural Islam into global scholarship, and its contribution to SDG 16 lies in research and dialogue on peace, pluralism and governance, in expert work with governments and regional institutions, and in the integrity, participation and safety of its own institution. Section 1 documents research and international forums, and Section 2 documents governance and integrity, rights and participation, work with government, and peace education in the community, each mapped to the SDG 16 targets and to the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings indicators.

Research and dialogue. UIII’s Scopus profile lists 19 documents mapped to SDG 16. In 2025 UIII co-organised the International Conference on Human Fraternity with the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, which launched the Indonesian Institute for Human Fraternity, hosted AICIS+ 2025 with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, with 2,434 abstracts from 31 countries, and co-hosted the 7th World Indonesianists Congress with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Work with government. UIII’s Center of Muslim Politics and World Society (COMPOSE) trained 24 officials of ASEAN countries in interreligious dialogue in Manila, the KOMITMEN programme convened the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority on climate-responsive policy, and the University ran the 8th Certificate Course on International Humanitarian Law and Islamic Law with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Integrity and transparency. Rector’s Regulation No. 19 of 2023 on gratification control, a Gratification Control Unit established by Rector’s Decree No. 52/R/2025, a public complaints portal and a whistleblowing system overseen by the Internal Audit Unit, codes of ethics for leaders, lecturers, staff and students, and a public legal information portal make UIII’s governance accountable and open.

Rights and participation. An elected Student Union represents students, lecturers are represented in the Academic Senate, Rector’s Circular No. 1c/2025 prohibits discrimination, and Rector’s Regulation No. 12 of 2025 and a task force for 2025–2027 prevent and handle sexual violence.

Section 3: Conclusion

The evidence in this report shows how UIII contributes to peaceful, just and inclusive societies. Targets 16.1 and 16.b are served by research and international dialogue on human fraternity, pluralism and religion and democracy, including the International Conference on Human Fraternity and the launch of the Indonesian Institute for Human Fraternity, AICIS+ 2025 and the 7th World Indonesianists Congress, and by peace education with the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates and in local communities.

Targets 16.6, 16.7 and 16.a are served by UIII’s work with governments and regional institutions: the training of ASEAN officials, the KOMITMEN policy dialogue, the ICRC course on international humanitarian law and the Memorandum of Commitment with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Targets 16.5 and 16.10 are served within the University by gratification control, a whistleblowing system and a public information portal, and Targets 16.3 and 16.7 by an elected Student Union, lecturer representation, anti-discrimination and sexual-violence policies and appeal procedures.

In 2026 UIII will report the results of the Indonesian Institute for Human Fraternity and the Global Indonesianist Network, publish its financial reports and the outcomes of its integrity programme, and extend representation of staff and students in University bodies. This report complements the SDG 16 chapter of the UIII Sustainable Development Goals Report 2025/2026.
