Metric 4.3.2: Public Events for Lifelong Learning

Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) is a state postgraduate research university established by the Government of Indonesia in Depok, West Java, with a mandate to bring Indonesian scholarship on Islam and society into conversation with the world. The University reads that mandate as a public one. Its four faculties (Islamic Studies, Social Sciences, Education, and Economics and Business), the Jusuf Kalla Library, the Indonesian Institute for Foreign Affairs, and the research centres and student associations attached to them treat the dissemination of knowledge to people who are not enrolled at UIII as a standing institutional responsibility rather than an occasional courtesy. Throughout 2025 the University therefore opened its academic spaces to the wider public: the Theater Room and Lecture Hall of Faculty A Building, the Lecture Hall and Teleconference Room of Faculty B Building, the Procession Hall of the Rectorate, the Jusuf Kalla Library, and the hybrid and fully online platforms through which lectures and seminars were streamed to participants across Indonesia and abroad. Every public educational event recorded in this document was offered free of charge to its external participants, whether through open attendance, a published registration link, or a competitive call for participants at no cost. The University maintains this policy deliberately, so that the barrier between a research university and the community it serves is set by interest and not by the ability to pay.

The reporting year 2025 produced a public programme of considerable scale and range. Table 1 records 98 free public educational events hosted or co-hosted by UIII between January and December 2025, of which 59 carry a confirmed public verification page on the University's web domains and 39 are documented in the 2025 annual reports of the faculties pending the publication of their web reports; two fee-based professional programmes are reported separately for transparency and are not counted among the free events. The 98 events fall into five categories. Thirteen international conferences and congresses, among them the Annual International Conference on Islam, Science and Society (AICIS+), which drew 2,434 abstracts from 31 countries, the International Conference on Decolonizing Social Sciences and Humanities, with 411 abstracts from 23 countries, and the 7th World Indonesianists Congress, gathered researchers from every continent in Depok and online. Twenty-six public lectures brought the Rector of Al-Azhar University, the Ambassador of Pakistan, the Dean of Melbourne Law School, and professors from Sciences Po, Durham, Georgetown, SOAS, the Australian National University, and Humboldt University before open audiences. Thirty-six entries in recurring open seminar series, including the Faculty of Education's monthly LunchTalk with its public Zoom link and e-certificate, the Faculty of Social Sciences' Brown Bag Series and Climate Talk, the Faculty of Economics and Business's EconInsight and Sustainable Finance series, and the Library's Book Forum, gave the public a regular rhythm of continuing education. Nine public policy dialogues and roundtables, convened by the Indonesian Institute for Foreign Affairs and the KOMITMEN climate economics programme, placed vice ministers, trade negotiators, central bankers, and regulators in open discussion with citizens. Fourteen short courses, trainings, and workshops open to external participants trained school mathematics teachers, parents, undergraduate students from other campuses, early career women scholars from Brazil and Indonesia, humanitarian lawyers from seven countries, and young interfaith leaders from Greater Jakarta. The external audiences reached across these categories comprised primary and secondary school teachers and principals, lecturers and researchers from other Indonesian and foreign universities, officials of ministries and regulatory agencies, diplomats and embassy staff, sharia finance and sustainability practitioners, religious leaders and interfaith practitioners, journalists, secondary school pupils, and residents of Depok and Greater Jakarta, numbering several thousand people over the year.

These events were designed to leave knowledge behind rather than to pass without trace. The regional conference on interreligious dialogue produced a 464-page edited volume deposited in the UIII Library; the International Conference on Human Fraternity closed with the Jakarta Declaration on Human Fraternity; the IIFA roundtable on development cooperation led the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to appoint UIII as knowledge partner for the Grand Design of International Development Cooperation; the IIFA roundtable on artificial intelligence published policy takeaways for the public; the Faculty of Education placed the abstracts of its annual conference online as an open resource and issued e-certificates to LunchTalk participants for their professional development records; and the papers of the World Indonesianists Congress and the National Colloquium on international law are being compiled into publications and teaching materials. The evidence for every event with a confirmed web page is public. Dates in 2025, venues, speakers, audiences, access status, and photographs are documented on the University's official domains, uiii.ac.id and its archive old.uiii.ac.id, and on the faculty and institute domains fis.uiii.ac.id, soc.uiii.ac.id, foe.uiii.ac.id, feb.uiii.ac.id, and iifa.uiii.ac.id. Each page cited in Table 1 and in Section 4 opens without login, registration, or payment, so that any reader can verify the record independently. For the 39 events whose web reports are pending, the final column of Table 1 names the faculty annual report that documents the event, and the faculties have been asked to complete the web record.

Scope and inclusion. An event is included when it was educational in content, hosted or co-hosted by UIII in 2025, and open to people outside the University, whether through free attendance, open registration, or an open and competitive call for participants. Internal academic milestones (thesis defenses, orientation, judicium, staff training) and closed institutional meetings are excluded. Event details come from the faculty annual reports for 2025 and from the public web pages cited; where the two differ, the web page is followed and the difference is noted in the narrative. A further 39 public events that are documented in the faculty annual reports or on event posters, but for which a web report had not been located at the time of compilation, are integrated into Table 1 under their respective categories; for these events the final column cites the documentary source in place of a URL, so that the faculties can complete their web documentation

Detailed Breakdown of Public Events (Lifelong Learning) Conducted in 2025

This section elaborates on each public event to showcase UIII’s commitment to lifelong learning. Every entry is structured to detail the event's institutional mandate, the faculty and external speakers who delivered it, the external audience reached through open access, and the overall educational impact. To verify these activities, each description is accompanied by an official photograph and a link to the public web report, or an equivalent documentary source where applicable.

4.1 International Conferences and Congresses Open to the Public

Conferences are the largest lifelong learning platforms that UIII operates. Most begin with an open call for papers that invites researchers from any institution and any country, and their plenary sessions are open to attendees who are not presenting. In 2025 the University hosted thirteen such gatherings, ranging from a regional celebration of a decade of interreligious dialogue to a national research conference that drew 2,434 abstracts from 31 countries, and including a students' conference on Islam and Muslim societies and an online regional symposium on educational leadership. Taken together they brought several thousand external participants to the Depok campus and online, and they produced edited volumes, declarations, and policy recommendations that remain publicly available.

4.1.1 International Conference on Decolonizing Social Sciences and Humanities: Islamic and Non-Western Perspectives (29 to 30 April 2025)

The Faculty of Islamic Studies, in partnership with Enstitü Sosyal (Social Institute Türkiye), convened this two-day international conference on 29 and 30 April 2025 at the Depok campus to examine how the social sciences and humanities might be rethought from Islamic and other non-Western standpoints. The educational theme addressed researchers and lecturers across the Global South who seek alternatives to knowledge frameworks inherited from the colonial period. The conference was designed from the outset as an open scholarly forum for the academic public beyond the University's own enrolled students, announced through a public call for papers and a public programme, and not as a closed faculty meeting. Nine invited speakers framed the discussion: Syed Farid Alatas, Lena Salaymeh (École Pratique des Hautes Études), Joseph E. B. Lumbard (Hamad Bin Khalifa University), Vedi R. Hadiz (University of Melbourne), Salman Sayyid (University of Leeds), Recep Şentürk (Ibn Haldun University), Anna M. Gade (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Farish A. Noor, and Komaruddin Hidayat, each a recognised authority on decolonial thought, Islamic intellectual history, or the sociology of knowledge. The Faculty of Islamic Studies of UIII organised the programme with its Turkish partner institute. Participation was free of charge for all external attendees. The open call for papers received 411 abstracts from 23 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North and South America, and Australia, of which 48 were selected for presentation in 12 thematic sessions. Lecturers, postgraduate students, and independent researchers from Indonesian and foreign universities, none of them enrolled at UIII, attended the plenary and parallel sessions without charge, extending the University's teaching far beyond its own student body. The conference positioned UIII as a venue where the question of knowledge production in the Global South can be debated in public. The University's report of the event, which remains openly accessible on the UIII website, records the arguments of the invited speakers and concludes that the search for academic independence and alternative knowledge systems is gaining momentum among scholars in the region, so that the learning generated by the conference is available to readers who could not attend.

4.1.2 The 4th Faculty of Education Annual Conference 2025: Assessment and Equity in Education (7 to 8 May 2025)

The Faculty of Education held its 4th Annual Conference on 7 and 8 May 2025 in Faculty A Building on the Depok campus under the theme Educational Assessment and Evaluation, with the specific topic Assessment and Equity in Education. The conference addressed questions that school teachers and assessment practitioners face daily: how assessment can be designed so that it does not disadvantage particular groups of learners, how cultural context shapes test performance, and how generative artificial intelligence changes feedback and evaluation. It was convened through an open call for papers as a public academic forum for the education community outside the University, not as an internal faculty event. Three keynote speakers anchored the programme: Associate Professor Joanna Tai of Deakin University, an authority on inclusive assessment design; Bahrul Hayat, Ph.D. of UIII, a national expert on educational measurement; and Professor Yan Zi of The Education University of Hong Kong, a leading researcher on assessment in the age of artificial intelligence. The Faculty of Education of UIII organised the conference, and its students contributed a cultural performance alongside the academic sessions. Attendance was free of charge for all participants. The open-call conference accepted 54 papers and drew more than 100 scholars, school educators, assessment practitioners, researchers, and students from Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and Hong Kong. The absence of a fee allowed teachers and lecturers from other institutions to present their own work and to learn directly from international experts in assessment design. Reports of the three keynote addresses were published separately on the University website, so that the substance of the conference reached readers who could not attend, and the abstracts of the accepted papers were placed on the Faculty's public conference page as an open resource for the education community. The conference therefore produced a lasting body of openly accessible teaching material on equitable assessment for practitioners across the region.

4.1.3 The 4th International Conference on Muslim World Economy and Business (ICMWEB) 2025 (27 to 28 May 2025)

The Faculty of Economics and Business organised the 4th International Conference on Muslim World Economy and Business (ICMWEB) on 27 May 2025, followed by a Call for Papers day on 28 May 2025, at the Depok campus. The theme, Navigating the New Protectionism: Global South and Muslim World Economies in the New Trump Era, responded directly to the return of tariff-driven trade policy and to its consequences for developing economies, a subject of immediate concern to policymakers and business leaders in Indonesia and the wider Muslim world. The conference was announced with a public registration link and was designed as an open economic forum for participants beyond the University's enrolled students. Prof. J. Soedradjad Djiwandono, Professor Emeritus at Universitas Indonesia and former Governor of Bank Indonesia, and Muhamad Lutfi, Minister of Trade in 2014 and from 2020 to 2022, gave the keynote addresses. Prof. Niaz Asadullah (IDEAS), Prof. Shandre Thangavelu (Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia, Sunway University), and Prof. Sahara (IPB University) spoke in the academic panels, and the industry leaders Indra Kampono and Andry Asmoro discussed strategy for Indonesia's banking sector. The Faculty of Economics and Business of UIII organised the conference. Registration was open to the public through a published link at no cost, and no fee was charged to any participant. The conference gathered policymakers, scholars, and business leaders from outside the University alongside students, and more than 20 papers were presented on the second day by researchers from a range of institutions. Three best papers and ten selected papers were recognised for research quality and relevance to the economies of the Muslim world, with consideration for publication in the Faculty's journal, Muslim Business and Economics Review, so that the research presented reaches a wider readership. Two public reports of the conference on the University website preserve the keynote arguments on protectionism and policy response for readers beyond the audience in the hall.

4.1.4 International Conference on Interreligious Dialogue in Southeast Asia: KAICIID 10 Years of Dialogue and Regional Action (17 June 2025)

The Center of Muslim Politics and World Society (COMPOSE) of the Faculty of Social Sciences hosted the regional conference Interreligious Dialogue in Southeast Asia: Achievements, Challenges, and Opportunities on 17 June 2025 at the Depok campus, marking ten years of the KAICIID International Fellows Programme. The conference took stock of a decade of interfaith work in the region and asked what practitioners, religious leaders, and educators need in order to sustain dialogue in the years ahead. It was conceived as a public educational gathering for the regional interfaith community, open to participants with no enrolment at UIII. The conference was co-organised by COMPOSE of UIII with the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) and Institut Dian/Interfidei Yogyakarta and supported by a KAICIID Micro Grant. Ridwan, Ph.D., Director of COMPOSE, convened the programme; Mitra Modaressi, Senior Programme Manager at KAICIID, argued that dialogue rests on recognition, resourcing, and respect; and Dean Philips J. Vermonte presented UIII, with students from more than forty countries, as a hub for intercultural understanding. Attendance was free of charge. Interfaith practitioners, religious leaders, and programme alumni from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, and Singapore travelled to Depok, with guests from Portugal and Canada. The conference was preceded by a free public webinar on 13 May 2025 on best practices and challenges of interreligious dialogue for peace in Southeast Asia (Section 4.4.7), and it was followed on 18 and 19 June 2025 by a curriculum review in which fellows from across the region assessed the KAICIID training curriculum, closing with a Cultural Night. The proceedings became the 464-page edited volume Interreligious Dialogue in Southeast Asia: Achievements, Challenges, and Prospects, presented in Lisbon in December 2025 and deposited in the UIII Library, so that the learning generated at the conference remains available to the public as a permanent reference work. Three public reports on the University website document the conference, its announcement, and the curriculum review.

4.1.5 International Conference on Religious Environmentalism in Action: Knowledge, Movements, and Policies (16 to 18 July 2025)

This three-day international conference, held from 16 to 18 July 2025 at the UIII campus in Depok, asked how religious knowledge, faith-based movements, and public policy can respond to the climate crisis. It was organised by PPIM UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta under its REACT initiative together with the Faculty of Social Sciences of UIII and the journal Studia Islamika, with support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The conference deliberately brought scholars and religious authorities into the same programme and was opened to researchers, faith communities, and the public through an international call for papers. The keynote programme reached well beyond the academy. The Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof. Nasaruddin Umar, spoke on eco-theology; the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Prof. Abdul Mu'ti, addressed the role of schools; and Prof. Anna Gade (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Prof. Frans Wijsen (Radboud University), Dr. Iyad Abumoghli (UNEP Faith for Earth), and Prof. Iim Halimatusa'diyah joined faith leaders from the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Indonesia, the Hindu Dharma council, Nahdlatul Ulama, the Indonesian Ulema Council, and the Communion of Churches in Indonesia. The Faculty of Social Sciences of UIII co-organised the conference with PPIM UIN Jakarta and Studia Islamika. Participation was free of charge. The call for papers attracted 233 abstracts, of which 102 papers were selected from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, and elsewhere. Researchers, faith leaders, policymakers, and students from outside the University attended without charge, and a short film screening and a Green Religion exhibition allowed visitors to engage with the subject through more than lectures alone. The three partner institutions confirmed a continuing commitment to strengthen the role of religion in climate action. Three conference reports published on the University website document the arguments of the ministers and faith leaders for readers beyond the campus, giving the public continued access to the educational content of the conference.

4.1.6 UIII and HCHF International Conference on Human Fraternity (29 to 30 July 2025)

UIII and the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity (HCHF) co-hosted the International Conference on Human Fraternity on 29 and 30 July 2025 in Jakarta under the theme Advancing Human Fraternity Amidst Global Uncertainties: Toward a More Peaceful and Prosperous World Civilization. The conference marked the launch of the Indonesian Institute for Human Fraternity at UIII and offered the public a structured conversation on peace and coexistence at a time of global tension. It was convened by the University as a public educational event with open registration, not as an internal institutional ceremony. The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Prof. Pratikno, officiated the launch of the Institute, and the UAE Ambassador to Indonesia and ASEAN, Jusuf Kalla as Chair of the UIII Board of Trustees, and HCHF Secretary General Dr. Khalid Al-Ghaith addressed the plenary. Panels led by Valeria Martano, Din Syamsuddin, Farish A. Noor, and others ran under the Chatham House Rule. UIII organised the conference with the HCHF. About 200 participants attended by free registration, with no fee charged. The audience comprised state officials, embassy representatives, members of non-governmental organisations, journalists, academics, and students. The conference was held at a Jakarta venue rather than on the Depok campus; it is recorded here because it was convened and hosted by the University and formed part of its public education programme on peace and coexistence. The conference closed with the Jakarta Declaration on Human Fraternity, a public document, and the newly launched Indonesian Institute for Human Fraternity provides a standing platform at UIII for future public programmes on interreligious and intercultural coexistence. Two public reports on the University website document the launch and the Declaration.

4.1.7 Focus Group Discussion and Seminar: Rethinking Accreditation Policy in Higher Education in Indonesia (20 August 2025)

Responding to the national debate on the reform of higher education accreditation, the Faculty of Education convened a Focus Group Discussion and Seminar on 20 August 2025 at the Depok campus that weighed whether Indonesia should retain its three-tier grades (Baik, Baik Sekali, Unggul) or move to a binary system of accredited and not accredited institutions. The question affects every university leader and quality assurance officer in the country, and the forum was designed to give leaders of other institutions, rather than UIII's own students, direct access to the agencies and ministries that shape the policy. Speakers included Prof. Muchlas Samani, Chair of the Independent Accreditation Agency for Education (LAMDIK); Prof. Mujiburrahman, Rector of UIN Antasari Banjarmasin; Prof. Lindawati S. Kusdhany, Director of Academic Quality Assurance at Universitas Indonesia; Prof. Mukhamad Najib, Director of Institutional Management at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology; Tatum Syarifah Adiningrum, Ph.D. of BINUS University; Prof. Iwan Jazadi of STKIP Paracendekia NW Sumbawa; Jen Bahen of Australia's Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency; and Kamal Khurana of the Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Centre at the Embassy of India. Dr. Lukman Nul Hakim of the Faculty of Education of UIII moderated, and the Faculty organised the forum. Participation was free of charge. The discussion gathered government representatives and rectors and leaders of public and private universities from within and beyond Java, who contributed their institutional experience to the comparison of Indonesian, Australian, and Indian models. All speakers agreed that the current system needs significant improvement while disagreeing on the remedy. The Faculty published two reports of the proceedings on the University website, one on the Indonesian perspectives and one on the comparative lessons from Australia and India, which made the arguments available to the wider higher education community as a public policy learning resource.

4.1.8 AICIS+ 2025: Annual International Conference on Islam, Science and Society, with public side events (29 to 31 October 2025)

The Annual International Conference on Islam, Science and Society (AICIS+) 2025, hosted by UIII with the Directorate General of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, took place from 29 to 31 October 2025 at the Depok campus under the theme Islam, Ecotheology, and Technological Transformation. AICIS+ was designed as a campus-wide public festival of learning rather than a closed academic meeting, so that the surrounding community, school pupils, and visitors with no connection to the University could experience the conference at first hand. Twelve international speakers from eight countries, including Prof. Farish A. Noor and Prof. Shahram Akbarzadeh of Deakin University, led the plenary sessions, and the Minister of Religious Affairs addressed the conference with a call for a more feminine theology. UIII and the Directorate General organised the programme, with the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Jusuf Kalla Library running the side events. The call for papers received 2,434 abstracts from 31 countries, from which 234 were selected for presentation. The side programme was open to visitors at no charge: a Science and Education Expo and a Halal and International Culinary Expo at Plaza Tiga Pilar; book discussions on Gender Equality Argument: A Quranic Perspective by Prof. Nasaruddin Umar and on Elections in Southeast Asia by Prof. Farish A. Noor; a Science Talkshow; a Health Talkshow with RS Sentra Medika; madrasah art performances; an academic session on publishing in Scopus-indexed journals; and a live podcast by the Faculty of Economics and Business on climate disasters and their economic impact in Indonesia. Members of the general public, madrasah students and teachers, and visitors from the Depok area took part free of charge. Reflections on the conference were published in a series of articles on the University website, which remain openly available, and the organisers stated that the public festival format would remain part of the conference in future years, embedding a free public learning component in the largest annual academic event on Islamic studies in Indonesia.

4.1.9 The 7th World Indonesianists Congress (12 to 13 November 2025)

UIII hosted the 7th World Indonesianists Congress on 12 and 13 November 2025 in the Procession Hall of the Rectorate Building, in partnership with the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency (BSKLN) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Indonesian Institute for Foreign Affairs. Held in the seventieth anniversary year of the Asia-Africa Conference, the congress carried the theme Reviving Bandung Spirit: Boosting South-South Cooperation Toward a More Prosperous and Stable World Order. It was run as a public hybrid congress with open registration, addressing diplomats, journalists, and the interested public as well as scholars. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir opened the proceedings, and 16 Indonesianists from 10 countries, among them Dr. Ann Marie Murphy (Seton Hall University), Prof. Anders Uhlin, Prof. Stein Oluf Kristiansen, Prof. Ignacio Ortiz Vila, Prof. Cedomir Nestorovic, Prof. Michael G. Vann, and Dr. Jyoti Arora, debated Indonesia's bridging role, the blue economy and climate action, and cultural exchange in education. The Faculty of Social Sciences and IIFA of UIII organised the congress with BSKLN. Registration was free of charge and open to anyone through the IIFA website. The hybrid format allowed students, diplomats, journalists, and members of the public to follow the sessions in the hall or online without cost. The closing takeaways, including the point that South-South cooperation should not be equated with anti-Western sentiment, were published by the University on its website; the congress papers are being compiled into an edited volume; and BSKLN and the Faculty signed a commitment on education, research, community engagement, and soft diplomacy at the close of the congress, securing the continuation of this public forum.

4.1.10 IIFA National Colloquium: 1955 Bandung Conference, Decoloniality, and Indonesia's Contribution to the Reshaping of International Law (17 December 2025)

The Centre for International Law of the Indonesian Institute for Foreign Affairs, together with the Indonesian Society of International Law Lecturers (ISILL), convened a National Colloquium on 17 December 2025 in the Teleconference Room of Faculty B Building to examine how the 1955 Bandung Conference and decolonial thought have shaped, and can continue to shape, Indonesia's contribution to international law. The colloquium was published on the IIFA events page with open registration and was addressed to the national community of international law scholars and practitioners rather than to UIII students alone. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Arif Havas Oegroseno delivered the keynote on the Non-Aligned Movement, strategic autonomy, and proactive diplomacy, and Dean Philips J. Vermonte, Dr. Zezen Zaenal Mutaqin, and Vice Rector Syafiq Hasyim gave the opening remarks. Panels with Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana and Prof. Arie Afriansyah (Universitas Indonesia), Prof. Iman Prihandono (Universitas Airlangga), Ambassador L. Amrih Jinangkung (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and Prof. Dhiana Puspitawati (Universitas Brawijaya) examined global diplomacy, international investment law, business and human rights, and decolonial approaches to ocean governance. IIFA of UIII organised the colloquium with ISILL. Registration was open and free of charge through the IIFA events page. The audience combined scholars, policymakers, diplomats, legal practitioners, and students from several universities, the majority of them from outside UIII. Follow-up publications, policy recommendations, decolonial teaching materials for international law courses, and a regional discussion with partners in Singapore were planned as outputs of the colloquium. The event page and two reports on the University and IIFA websites remain publicly accessible.

4.1.11 1st Global South Forum Workshop (18 December 2025)

The Center for the Global South Studies at IIFA held the 1st Global South Forum Workshop, New Global Cooperation, Decolonization, and the Bandung Spirit: Reimagining Asia's Role in the Global South, on 18 December 2025 in the Teleconference Room of Faculty B Building. The Global South Forum is an open analysis platform launched in January 2025 by the Faculty of Social Sciences with the Global South Unit of the London School of Economics and Political Science; by the end of the year it listed 24 contributors, including UIII students. The workshop was announced publicly with open registration and addressed the wider community of analysts and practitioners of international relations. The workshop was organised by IIFA's Center for the Global South Studies of UIII in cooperation with the LSE Global South Unit, drawing on the contributors to the Forum as presenters and discussants. Participation was free of charge by open registration through the IIFA website. The workshop addressed scholars, analysts, and practitioners of international relations from outside the University as well as UIII researchers and students. The workshop converted an online analysis platform into a research convening that examined how Indonesia, China, India, and ASEAN engage the wider Global South through South-South cooperation frameworks, and how decolonisation and the Bandung Spirit can serve as lenses for global cooperation. Its public event page on the IIFA website records the programme for external readers.

4.1.12 The 1st Faculty of Education Symposium (online): Culturally-Informed Educational Leadership in Asia (11 August 2025)

The Faculty of Education convened its first Symposium on 11 August 2025 as a fully online forum on the theme Culturally-Informed Educational Leadership in Asia. The theme invited researchers and practitioners to consider how the leadership of schools and universities in Asia can be grounded in the cultural settings in which those institutions work. The symposium extended the Faculty's conference tradition (Section 4.1.2) into a dedicated regional meeting on educational leadership, held online so that participants across the region, none of whom needed any enrolment at UIII, could join without travel. The Faculty of Education of UIII organised the symposium, and Dr. Lukman Nul Hakim of the Faculty moderated the online proceedings. The programme and presenters are recorded in the Faculty's annual report for 2025. Participation was free of charge. The symposium addressed educational leaders and researchers across Asia, who took part online without any fee. As the first event of its kind at the Faculty, the symposium established a regional forum on educational leadership that complements the Faculty's in-person annual conference. It is entered in Table 1 as item 12 and is documented in the FoE Annual Report 2025; a public web report is pending.

4.1.13 STREAMS 2025: Students' Conference on Islam and Muslim Societies (27 November 2025)

The Faculty of Islamic Studies and ISSA held STREAMS 2025, the Students' Conference on Islam and Muslim Societies, on 27 November 2025 under the theme Interpreting Tradition, Prompting the Future. The conference asked how the Islamic intellectual tradition is read today and how such readings can inform the future of Muslim societies, and it gave young researchers the full experience of an academic conference, from the presentation of a paper to discussion with senior scholars. It was opened to graduate students and young researchers from other institutions, not only to those enrolled at UIII. Two keynote speakers framed the programme: Dr. Phil. Mu'ammar Zayn Qadafy and Prof. Ai Fatimah Nur Fuad. Thirty-nine presenters delivered papers in the conference sessions. The Faculty of Islamic Studies of UIII organised the conference with ISSA. The conference was free of charge for all participants. Young researchers and graduate students from UIII and from other institutions took part as presenters and as members of the audience. STREAMS 2025 gave 39 early career presenters a platform to test their research before peers and established academics, and it added a conference designed for emerging scholars to the University's programme of international gatherings. It is entered in Table 1 as item 13 and is documented in the FIS Annual Report 2025; a public web report is pending.

4.2 Public Lectures by Visiting Scholars, Diplomats, and Policymakers

Public lectures are the most direct form of lifelong learning that UIII offers. They are announced on the University and faculty websites and social media channels, held in the Theater Room and Lecture Hall of Faculty A Building, the Lecture Hall and Teleconference Room of Faculty B Building, or the Jusuf Kalla Library, and open to anyone who registers or simply attends. In 2025 the University and its faculties hosted public lectures by the Rector of Al-Azhar, an ambassador, a ministry director, and professors from Sciences Po, Durham, Georgetown, Melbourne, SOAS, the Australian National University, and Humboldt University, among others. Sections 4.2.1 to 4.2.12 describe the lectures for which a public report exists on the UIII web domains; Sections 4.2.13 to 4.2.25 describe a further thirteen lectures, talks, and forums that are documented in the faculty annual reports and whose web reports are pending.

4.2.1 Public Lecture by the Rector of Al-Azhar University, Prof. Dr. Salamah Dawud (19 February 2025)

UIII welcomed Prof. Dr. Salamah Dawud, Rector of Al-Azhar University, Cairo, for a public lecture on 19 February 2025 on the Depok campus that had been announced on the University website in advance. The visit gave the Indonesian Muslim educational community a rare opportunity to hear the head of one of the oldest institutions of Islamic learning speak on the future of Islamic scholarship, and the lecture was announced as a public event open to guests from beyond the University's enrolled students. Prof. Dr. Salamah Dawud, a leading authority on Arabic rhetoric and literary criticism, spoke on scholarly exchange between Al-Azhar and UIII and on the shared responsibility of the two institutions for the future of Islamic civilisation, and he praised the strong commitment of Indonesian students to Islamic knowledge. The University organised the lecture. Attendance was free of charge. The lecture drew faculty, students, visiting scholars, and guests from the wider Muslim educational community, including participants from outside the University who attended following the public announcement. The visit was followed by the strengthening of institutional ties between Al-Azhar and UIII, and the University published both the advance announcement and a report of the lecture on its website for readers who could not attend, so that the content remains publicly available.

4.2.2 Kick-Off Public Lecture: Reinterpreting the Qur'an in the Modern World, Prof. Dr. Phil. Sahiron Syamsuddin (24 February 2025)

The Faculty of Islamic Studies opened its even semester of 2024/2025 on 24 February 2025 with a Kick-Off Public Lecture on Reinterpreting the Qur'an in the Modern World: Contemporary Approaches and Debates, held at the Depok campus. The semester-opening lecture is a standing tradition of the Faculty and is open to the public, offering students of other institutions and general readers of the Qur'an, not only UIII students, an introduction to current scholarly methods of interpretation. Prof. Dr. Phil. Sahiron Syamsuddin, Director of Islamic Higher Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and a leading Indonesian scholar of Qur'anic hermeneutics, presented contextual, historical, and critical approaches to the Qur'anic text, including the ma'na-cum-maghza method, and argued that interpretation must remain relevant to contemporary life without severing its roots in the classical tradition. The Faculty of Islamic Studies of UIII organised the lecture. Attendance was free of charge. Students, lecturers, and members of the public interested in Qur'anic studies attended; the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs noted that it was the first time an official of this stature had lectured at the University. A full report of the lecture was published on the University news site, extending the reach of the discussion to educators and students of Islamic higher education institutions across the country and preserving its content as an open learning resource.

4.2.3 Public Lecture: Contemporary Social Science Debates and Issues in Islamic Studies, Assoc. Prof. Stéphane Lacroix (17 March 2025)

On 17 March 2025, in the Theater Room of Faculty A Building, Associate Professor Stéphane Lacroix of Sciences Po Paris, then Visiting Professor at UIII, delivered the public lecture Contemporary Social Science Debates and Issues in Islamic Studies, a methodological orientation for anyone designing research on Muslim societies. The Faculty of Islamic Studies announced the lecture publicly as an open academic event for researchers from any institution. Assoc. Prof. Lacroix, an internationally recognised scholar of political Islam and Salafism, organised the lecture around three debates that shape the field: text versus context in explaining Muslim social behaviour, local versus global dynamics of Islamic practice, and the colonial legacy and post-colonial critique associated with Edward Said. The Faculty of Islamic Studies of UIII hosted the lecture. Attendance was free of charge. Students, researchers, and faculty from UIII and from other institutions attended, and the lecture offered external researchers a practical map for designing critical research that takes both religiosity and the social sciences seriously. The lecture was reported on both the University and the Faculty websites, where the reports remain publicly accessible, and it complemented the Visiting Professor's later contributions to the SCRIPTS summer course and the Library Book Forum in July 2025.

4.2.4 Visiting Professor Series: Essentialising Islamic Moral Economy for Sustainable Development, Prof. Mehmet Asutay (30 April 2025)

The Faculty of Economics and Business hosted its Visiting Professor Series on 30 April 2025 in the Lecture Hall of Faculty B Building with a lecture on Essentialising Islamic Moral Economy for Sustainable Development: Moral Turn in Islamic Finance. The subject is of direct relevance to Indonesia, which is among the largest Islamic finance markets in the world, and the lecture was opened to practitioners and lecturers of Islamic finance beyond the University's own students. Prof. Mehmet Asutay, Director of the Durham Centre for Islamic Economics and Finance, argued that Islamic finance has drifted toward the practices of conventional finance and has lost sight of its moral purpose, and he called for a return to the moral economy that gives the discipline its distinct contribution to sustainable development. The Faculty of Economics and Business of UIII organised the series. Attendance was free of charge. The lecture addressed students, lecturers, and practitioners of Islamic finance from outside the University. The University published a report of the lecture on its website, making its argument for a moral turn in Islamic finance available to practitioners and regulators who did not attend.

4.2.5 STQ2M Opening Public Lecture: Peacebuilding in Aceh and Mindanao, Prof. Yuhki Tajima (7 July 2025)

The 4th Summer Training on Qualitative and Quantitative Methods opened on 7 July 2025 at the Faculty of Social Sciences with a free public lecture that compared the peace processes in Aceh and Mindanao, following the earlier opening lectures by Dan Slater in 2023 and Thomas Pepinsky in 2024. The lecture was open to the public independently of enrolment in the fee-based training modules and independently of enrolment at UIII. Prof. Yuhki Tajima, Founding Rector of Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific and Associate Professor at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service, showed how the Free Aceh Movement held its splinter groups together through incentives, pressure, and dense ties between commanders and fighters, whereas the Moro groups fragmented. The Faculty of Social Sciences of UIII organised the lecture. Attendance was free of charge. Researchers, students, and members of the public attended, and the lecture drew on long-term fieldwork and a large survey of former combatants to show that such questions cannot be answered with a single method. The lecture was reported on the University website, where the report remains publicly accessible, and it served as a public introduction to the mixed methods approach taught across the summer training programme.

On 24 September 2025 UIII hosted Professor Michelle Foster, William Hearn Professor of Law and Dean of Melbourne Law School, for the public lecture Invisible Citizens: The Global Challenges of Statelessness at the Depok campus, a subject of immediate relevance to legal practitioners and civil society in a region with significant stateless populations. The lecture was announced publicly and open to the legal community and the public beyond the University's students. Professor Foster set out the scale of statelessness worldwide, the legal mechanisms that produce it, and the pathways through which it can be remedied, concluding that invisibility is not inevitability. On the same visit Professor Tim Lindsey, Director of the Centre for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society at the University of Melbourne, spoke on collaboration between Indonesia and Australia in legal education. The University organised both lectures. The lectures were free of charge and open to students, legal practitioners, and the public. The Brown Bag Series of the Faculty of Social Sciences held fourteen sessions in 2025 (#63 to #76) between 15 May and 10 December, normally in the Teleconference Room of Faculty B Building. The series gives external researchers and practitioners a regular, informal setting in which to hear visiting and resident scholars present current work on Southeast Asian politics, religion, and international affairs. It is open to researchers from outside the University and is not restricted to the Faculty's own students and staff. Speakers came from CNRS and IRASEC (Dr. Beatrice Zani, 15 May, on the political economy of labour migration of Southeast Asian maritime workers), the Centre for Asian Legal Studies at the National University of Singapore (Dr. Nyi Nyi Kyaw, 22 May, on Muslim citizenship in Myanmar), the University of Montreal and KAICIID (Prof. Patrice Brodeur, 25 June, on transnational Muslim contributions to interreligious dialogue), the COMPOSE fellowship (Thahir Jamal Kiliyamannil and Hamzah Fansuri, 1 August, on piety, law, and the politics of moderation; Muhammad Afdillah, 22 October, on interfaith marriage in Indonesia; Dr. Daniel McCoy, 5 November, on the end of the Asian Cold War), Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik in Berlin (Dr. Felix Heiduk, 6 October, on German foreign policy and the Indo-Pacific), the Australian National University (Prof. Greg Fealy, 13 October, on Nahdlatul Ulama and religious diplomacy), Seton Hall University (Prof. Ann Marie Murphy, 6 November, on United States policy toward Southeast Asia), the University of Hong Kong (Prof. Austin Strange, 14 November, on public support for foreign aid), Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University (Dr. Ruetaitip Chansrakaeo, 19 November, on strategic autonomy and BRICS), Kent State University (Dr. Ashley E. Nickels, 25 November, on policy as power in Flint, Michigan), Universitas Indonesia (Chaula Rininta Anindya, 26 November, on Indonesia's special forces), and the Vishwaneedam Center for Asian Blossoming (Prof. Ananta Kumar Giri, 10 December, on pluriversal politics and the world order). The Faculty of Social Sciences of UIII organises the series. All sessions were free of charge and open to faculty, students, and external researchers and practitioners, who attended in person at Faculty B Building. Four sessions have published reports on the University website, listed below: Prof. Brodeur argued that sustained platforms matter more than one-off events in interreligious dialogue; Dr. Heiduk explained Germany's Indo-Pacific Guidelines and its preference for ASEAN-led multilateralism; Prof. Fealy examined the closeness of Nahdlatul Ulama to state power and the risks to its moral independence; and the University's feature on Prof. Giri's two-month fellowship recorded his lectures at UIII and at partner universities. The remaining ten sessions (#63, #64, #66, #69, #70, #71, #72, #73, #74, and #75) are documented in the FOSS Annual Report 2025 under its recurring programmes and are entered together in Table 1 as item 56, with their web reports pending.

4.3.3 Jusuf Kalla Library Book Forum Series (April, May, and July 2025)

The Book Forum series of the Jusuf Kalla Library opened new scholarship to readers from outside the University three times in 2025, on 9 April, 15 May, and 14 July, pairing authors and expert discussants in conversations that range from early modern travel writing to children's literature and the history of Salafism. The forum is a public programme of the University library addressed to general readers, educators, and the diplomatic community, not only to enrolled students. On 9 April 2025, with the Embassy of Brazil in Jakarta, the forum discussed Johan Nieuhof's Voyages and Travels into Brasil and the East Indies (1682) with Ambassador George Monteiro Prata and Prof. Farish A. Noor. On 15 May 2025 the authors of Putri, Angpau dan Topi Duka, Dr. Sofie Dewayani, Dr. Tati L. Durriyah, and Asep Ropiudin, discussed how children's literature can open classroom conversations about gender, disability, and religious diversity. On 14 July 2025 the Faculty of Islamic Studies and the Library held the 14th Book Forum on Stéphane Lacroix's Twilight of the Saints: The History and Politics of Salafism in Contemporary Egypt, opened by Dean Prof. Yanwar Pribadi, moderated by Dr. Hurriyah of Universitas Indonesia, with Dr. Muhammad Al-Marakeby as discussant. The Jusuf Kalla Library of UIII organised the forums, with the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Islamic Studies as partners. All three forums were free of charge and open to the public. The April forum drew scholars and diplomats including ambassadors from eight countries; the May forum drew teachers and educators from several universities and foundations as well as parents; and the July forum drew scholars and students interested in Islamic movements, in a conversation that compared Egyptian Salafism with Indonesia's Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah. Each forum was reported publicly on the University or Faculty website, where the reports remain openly accessible. During AICIS+ 2025 the Library also hosted public book discussions of works by Prof. Nasaruddin Umar and Prof. Farish A. Noor, described in Section 4.1.8.

4.3.4 Journal Launch and Faculty Research Colloquia Open to the Academic Public (February to May 2025)

Two further open academic forums completed the picture of recurring public scholarship at UIII in 2025: the launch of a new edition of the Faculty of Social Sciences' open access journal on 5 February 2025 and the PROMISE colloquium (Progress Research on Muslim and Islamic Studies) of the Faculty of Islamic Studies on 11 March and 20 May 2025, which presents faculty research in progress to an open academic audience. Both forums were announced publicly and welcomed researchers and journal editors from other institutions. On 5 February 2025 the Faculty of Social Sciences launched the sixth edition of Muslim Politics Review with a keynote by Prof. Dewi Fortuna Anwar, Research Professor at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), who reviewed the standing of the journal and the path to international indexing; the edition features scholars from Australia, Germany, Bangladesh, Thailand, the United States, and Indonesia. The PROMISE colloquium presented Dr. A. Mughzi Abdillah's study of the illusion of neutrality in Ebussuud's tafsir under Ottoman power on 11 March 2025 and Dr. Muhammad Al-Marakeby's analysis of al-maskut 'anh, the matters left unaddressed by sharia in classical legal literature, on 20 May 2025. The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Islamic Studies of UIII organised the respective forums. All three events were free of charge. The journal launch was attended by students, lecturers, researchers, and journal editors from other institutions, and both colloquium sessions were open to academic participants from UIII and other institutions. All three events were reported on the University or Faculty websites, where the reports remain publicly accessible, giving the public a view of research in progress on the history of Qur'anic interpretation, the flexibility of classical Islamic law, and the development of an Indonesian open access journal in Muslim politics.

4.3.6 Faculty of Social Sciences Climate Talk Series, Sessions 7 and 8 (30 April and 22 August 2025)

Climate Talk is an open series of the Faculty of Social Sciences, organised with its Master of Public Policy in Climate Change programme, that brings practitioners and researchers to discuss the social and political dimensions of the climate crisis. The series reached its seventh session on 30 April 2025 and its eighth on 22 August 2025, and it is addressed to climate policy practitioners and the public as well as to students. Climate Talk 7 on 30 April 2025, held at the BI Corner in Faculty A Building, featured Farhan Helmy, President of DILANS Indonesia, on Climate Crisis, Sustainability, and Social Inclusion, linking climate policy to the inclusion of groups that are most exposed to its effects. Climate Talk 8 on 22 August 2025 featured Prof. Federica Genovese of the University of Oxford on Mapping the Political Economy of Climate Vulnerability in the Global South, which examined how political and economic conditions shape the exposure of countries in the Global South to climate risk. The Faculty of Social Sciences of UIII and its Master of Public Policy in Climate Change programme organised both sessions. Both sessions were free of charge. Climate Talk 7 addressed students, climate policy practitioners, and the public, and Climate Talk 8 addressed students, researchers, and the public. The two sessions combined a national practitioner perspective and an international research perspective on climate vulnerability, giving the public regular access to climate policy debate. They are entered in Table 1 as items 64 and 65 and are documented in the FOSS Annual Report 2025 (nos. 16 and 43); public web reports are pending, and the documentary source is cited in place of a URL.

4.4 Public Policy Dialogues and Roundtables

In 2025 UIII added a new layer of public education in the form of policy dialogues that bring government officials, diplomats, business, media, and civil society into the same room as students and the interested public. The Indonesian Institute for Foreign Affairs (IIFA), founded within the Faculty of Social Sciences in May 2025, held a monthly Discussion Series with open registration on its website, and the KOMITMEN programme, launched jointly by the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Social Sciences, convened dialogues on the economics of the climate transition. These forums teach by exposing participants to the people who make and negotiate policy, and their summaries are published for the public afterwards. The Faculty of Social Sciences also used the dialogue format for a regional webinar on interreligious dialogue for peace with KAICIID and for a scenario-building policy lab with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, described in Sections 4.4.7 and 4.4.8.

4.4.1 IIFA Discussion Series #1: Hugo Grotius and Indonesia's Historical Contribution to International Law (10 June 2025)

The inaugural roundtable of the IIFA Discussion Series was held on 10 June 2025 from 10.30 to 12.30 in the Teleconference Room of Faculty B Building, convened by IIFA's Centre for International Law. It traced the roots of Indonesia's foreign policy in international law and established the format that IIFA used throughout the year: a published event page with open registration, a short panel of trigger speakers, discussion under the Chatham House Rule, and a public summary afterwards. The series is designed as a public policy forum for government, media, and civil society participants, not as an internal faculty seminar. Dr. Abdul Kadir Jaelani and Dr. Zezen Zaenal Mutaqin, both scholars of international law, discussed Grotius's legacy on the law of the sea and the use of force and Indonesia's contribution to global legal norms. The Centre for International Law of IIFA, within the Faculty of Social Sciences of UIII, organised the session. Registration was free of charge through the IIFA events page. Participants from government, academia, the media, and international organisations took part. The roundtable launched a monthly series that continued through 2025 and set the pattern of open, free policy discussion that the subsequent sessions followed. Its public event page on the IIFA website remains accessible.

4.4.2 IIFA Discussion Series #2: The Future of Global Development Cooperation (3 July 2025)

IIFA's Centre for Climate and International Development convened the second roundtable on 3 July 2025 at the Depok campus, The Future of Global Development Cooperation amid Geopolitical Tension, Norms Contestation, and Institutional Shift, in collaboration with the SDGs Center of Universitas Padjadjaran, at a moment when traditional development funding was contracting and Indonesia was redefining its own role as a provider of cooperation. The roundtable was published with open registration for the policy community and the public. Prof. Andy Sumner of King's College London argued that the crisis of development cooperation is about political purpose and not only funding, and proposed that Indonesia convene a new North-South commission in the Bandung tradition; Prof. Arief Anshory Yusuf called for cooperation built on knowledge sharing in climate, artificial intelligence, demography, and health; and Rina Setyawati, Director of International Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described Indonesia's transition from recipient to provider through Indonesia AID. IIFA of UIII organised the session with the SDGs Center of Universitas Padjadjaran. Participation was free of charge by open registration. Representatives of the United States Mission to ASEAN, the Australian Embassy, The Jakarta Post, CSIS, BRIN, the ICRC, and several Indonesian universities took part, and the roundtable was covered by the national press. The roundtable led to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs choosing UIII as knowledge partner for the Grand Design of International Development Cooperation, and its summary was published on the University and IIFA websites, where it remains publicly accessible.

4.4.3 IIFA Discussion Series #3: The Future of Free Trade and Indonesia's Multilateral and Bilateral Strategies (4 August 2025)

The third roundtable, held on 4 August 2025 in the Teleconference Room of Faculty B Building, examined The Future of Free Trade and Indonesia's Multilateral and Bilateral Strategies: Assessing Our Negotiations with the EU and the U.S. Dean Philips J. Vermonte opened by observing that multilateralism is being pushed into the back seat as bilateral deals become the norm, leaving middle powers in asymmetric relationships. The session was published with open registration for negotiators, business, media, and the public. Prof. Tirta Nugraha Mursitama, Deputy for Investment Cooperation at the Ministry of Investment, discussed the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and the implications of United States reciprocal tariffs; Dr. Nidya Kartikasari, Director for American and European Intra- and Inter-regional Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed non-tariff barriers and the prospects of a reciprocal trade agreement with the United States; and Dr. Teguh Yudo Wicaksono of FEB UIII analysed the lasting impact of Trump-era trade policy and the need to reform the global trading system. IIFA's Centre for Strategic and Foreign Policy of UIII organised the session. Registration was free of charge. Government negotiators, academics, business representatives, and media took part, and the session brought two senior negotiating officials into an open academic setting. The discussion was reported on both the University and the IIFA websites, giving the public continuing access to a first-hand account of Indonesia's trade negotiating position.

4.4.4 IIFA Discussion Series #4: Indonesia in the Era of Artificial Intelligence (16 September 2025)

IIFA's Centre for Strategic and Foreign Policy hosted the fourth roundtable on 16 September 2025 at the Depok campus, Indonesia in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: What Needs to be Done Nationally and Internationally?, bringing the government's digital policy leadership into dialogue with industry and academia on a subject of broad public concern. The session was published with open registration for officials, industry, media, and the public. Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria reported that Indonesia had completed the UNESCO AI Readiness Assessment, the first ASEAN country to do so, and would publish a national AI Roadmap in early 2026; Shaanti Shamdasani of Strategic ASEAN International Advocacy and Consultancy argued that critical minerals could underpin Indonesian leadership in affordable artificial intelligence for developing nations; Tyovan Ari Widagdo, Chief Executive of Vemebo, warned that Indonesia trails Vietnam and Malaysia in investment; and Muhammad Al Atiqi, Ph.D. served as discussant under the moderation of Dean Philips J. Vermonte. IIFA of UIII organised the session. Registration was free of charge through the IIFA events page. Government officials, technology industry representatives, academics, media, and students took part. IIFA published three takeaways for the public on its website: decide whether Indonesia will be an AI user or producer before regulating, treat talent as the binding constraint, and calibrate the level of regulation to balance innovation and protection. The event page and two news reports remain publicly accessible.

4.4.5 Launch of KOMITMEN and the KOMITMEN National Dialogue (16 July and 11 to 12 November 2025)

On 16 July 2025 the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Social Sciences launched KOMITMEN (Kerangka Ekonomi untuk Indonesia Tanggap Iklim menuju Emisi Nol Bersih) at the Depok campus, a research and policy programme supported by the climate philanthropy ViriyaENB, as UIII's academic response to the need to integrate climate risk into economic policy. Its four pillars are climate-responsive macro-fiscal frameworks, stranded-asset valuation, capacity building for officials, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. The programme then convened its National Dialogue on Developing Climate-Responsive Macroeconomic, Fiscal, and Financial Sector Policies in Indonesia on 11 and 12 November 2025. Both events were public policy forums addressed to regulators, the financial sector, business, and researchers beyond the University. At the launch, Programme Lead Teguh Yudo Wicaksono, Ph.D. presented the programme; Rector Prof. Jamhari Makruf called it a bridge between knowledge and impact; and Suzanty Sitorus (ViriyaENB), Surabi Menon (ClimateWorks Foundation), Prof. Michiel Schaeffer (Climate Analytics), and the Deans of both faculties spoke. The National Dialogue brought together experts from the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Indonesia Financial Group (IFG), Bank Mandiri, KADIN Indonesia, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Indonesia Research Institute for Decarbonization (IRID), and the SDGs Center of Universitas Padjadjaran. The Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Social Sciences of UIII organised both events under the KOMITMEN programme. Both events were free of charge. The launch was attended by academics, policy experts, climate advocates, philanthropy representatives, and students on the Depok campus, and the two-day National Dialogue combined regulators, financial sector staff, business representatives, researchers, and students in discussions on macro-fiscal challenges, financial sector readiness, sustainable finance, and Indonesia's carbon market. KOMITMEN established a standing programme of public policy education on the climate transition; on 30 October 2025 it also staged a live podcast on climate disasters and their economic impacts in Indonesia as a side event of AICIS+. The launch is reported on the University website, where the report remains publicly accessible. The National Dialogue is entered in Table 1 as item 81 and is documented in the FEB Annual Report 2025 and the FOSS Annual Report 2025 (no. 61); its dedicated public web report is pending.

4.5 Webinars and Online Access to Public Events

Online delivery extended UIII's public events to learners who could not travel to Depok. The LunchTalk series was hybrid throughout 2025 with a published Zoom link, and the 7th World Indonesianists Congress was streamed. Several events were held fully online and are recorded in the faculty annual reports; they are summarised here, and those for which no web report has yet been located are entered in Table 1 with the faculty annual report as their documentary source.

4.5.1 Online and Hybrid Public Events in 2025

Fully online events in 2025 allowed international and regional audiences to take part in UIII's public programme at no cost and without travel, complementing the hybrid LunchTalk model in which an e-certificate is issued to online participants. Each of these sessions was designed for an external online public, with registration links published on posters and faculty channels rather than circulated internally. The Faculty of Islamic Studies co-hosted a Zoom webinar with the Alwaleed Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World at the University of Edinburgh on 25 February 2025, Blurring Identities: Sense, Islam, and Secularity among Malabaris in Malaysia, with Waseem Naser, Ph.D. (Center for Study and Research, New Delhi) as speaker and Dr. Hew Wai Weng and Zezen Zaenal Mutaqin, S.J.D. as discussants. The Faculty of Social Sciences and KAICIID held a pre-conference webinar on 13 May 2025, Best Practices and Challenges of Interreligious Dialogue for Peace in Southeast Asia, with Alissa Wahid (GUSDURian Network Indonesia), Dr. Alwani Ghazali (Universiti Malaya), and Teresita C. Mirafuentes (Philippines), moderated by Dr. Fransiska Widyawati of Universitas Katolik Indonesia Santu Paulus Ruteng, with opening remarks by Ana Có of the KAICIID Fellows Programme. The Faculty of Education held its third joint webinar with the University of Melbourne on 3 July 2025, Spatial Reasoning to Support Numeracy Learning, and its first online Symposium on 11 August 2025, Culturally-Informed Educational Leadership in Asia, moderated by Dr. Lukman Nul Hakim. The Faculty of Economics and Business delivered its Sustainable Finance Public Lecture Episode 8 on European Sustainability Reporting Standards online on 13 January 2025 with Prof. Adel Mohammed Yaslam Sarea of Ahlia University, Bahrain, and LunchTalk #39 with Teguh Khaerudin, Ph.D. was held fully online on 25 March 2025. Each of these sessions was free of charge and reached teachers, teacher educators, researchers, interfaith practitioners, and finance professionals in Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and beyond through Zoom. The sessions extended the reach of UIII's public events beyond Greater Jakarta; the Melbourne webinar continued a series begun in 2024, and the Faculty of Education's online symposium established a new regional forum on educational leadership. LunchTalk #39 and the June conference announcement have public reports, listed below; the sessions without a located web report are entered in Table 1 as items 12, 30, 63, 74, and 83 and are described individually in Sections 4.1.12, 4.2.16, 4.3.5, 4.3.8, and 4.4.7.

4.6 Short Courses, Trainings, and Workshops Open to External Participants

The most intensive form of lifelong learning that UIII offered in 2025 was the short course or workshop designed for people outside the University: school teachers, parents, undergraduate students from other campuses, early career researchers, young interfaith leaders, and humanitarian professionals. Most were free, several admitted participants through an open and competitive call, and all were held on the Depok campus unless stated otherwise. Two fee-based professional programmes are reported at the end of this section for transparency.

4.6.1 Decolonial Writing Workshop for Early Career Women Scholars (14 to 15 January 2025)

The Faculty of Education hosted the Decolonial Writing Workshop on 14 and 15 January 2025 in Faculty A Building as part of a global initiative funded by the British Academy, addressing the inequalities in global knowledge production that early career women scholars from the Global South encounter when they write for international publication. The workshop was open through a public call to scholars from any institution and was not an internal staff training. Dr. Leon Moosavi (University of Liverpool), Prof. Camila Prando (University of Brasília), and Prof. Nina Nurmila, Dean of the Faculty, led the workshop on decolonial approaches to academic writing and publishing. The Faculty of Education of UIII organised it with the University of Liverpool and the University of Brasília. Participation was free of charge. Twenty-four early career women scholars, twelve from Brazil and twelve from Indonesia, were selected from a wide pool of applicants through an open call. The workshop was announced and reported on both the University and the Faculty websites, where the reports remain publicly accessible, and it connected Indonesian and Brazilian scholars in a continuing network on decolonial scholarship.

In conclusion, the portfolio presented in this evidence shows that public education is a settled practice at UIII rather than a reporting exercise. In a single year the University and its faculties convened 98 free public educational events across five categories, from international conferences with thousands of submitted abstracts to a workshop for ten parents learning to write children's books, and they did so in halls and on platforms that any interested person could enter without charge. The audiences reached were not confined to the academic profession. Teachers, principals, pupils, parents, civil servants, diplomats, regulators, finance practitioners, religious leaders, journalists, and residents of the surrounding city took part alongside researchers and students from other institutions, and they left with declarations, published volumes, open abstracts, policy takeaways, certificates, and classroom materials that remain in circulation after the events themselves have ended.

Therefore, UIII will sustain this programme in 2026 and beyond. The recurring series described in Section 4.3 continue on their monthly and seasonal schedules; the annual conferences of the faculties, AICIS+, the Certificate Course on International Humanitarian Law and Islamic Law, now in its eighth year, and the IIFA Discussion Series run on established annual cycles, and the 2026 edition of SCRIPTS has already been announced; and the newly established Indonesian Institute for Human Fraternity, the Global South Forum, and the KOMITMEN programme provide standing platforms for future public dialogue. The University is also completing the web documentation of the events listed in Table 1 whose public reports are pending, so that the public record matches the full extent of its activity. Through this combination of open access, free participation, transparent documentation, and the dissemination of knowledge to every segment of society that chooses to engage, UIII contributes in a concrete and verifiable way to inclusive and equitable quality education and to lifelong learning opportunities for all, the aims expressed in Sustainable Development Goal 4.

Annex 1. List of UIII Public Educational Events 2025

able A1 lists the 98 free public educational events hosted by UIII in 2025, grouped into five categories: 13 international conferences and congresses (items 1 to 13), 26 public lectures (items 14 to 39), 36 entries in recurring open seminar series (items 40 to 75, of which item 56 groups ten Brown Bag sessions), 9 public policy dialogues and roundtables (items 76 to 84), and 14 short courses, trainings, and workshops open to external participants (items 85 to 98). Items 99 and 100, under a sixth heading, are the two fee-based professional programmes.
